I made this as a late dinner for Brian and I today. We went to Applebee's earlier in the evening and had dinner with his grandpa. I had the steak and portobellos and Brian had the garlic chicken. Both were on their weight watchers menu. My steak was tiny but well cooked but it had a really strange tasting gravy substance on it. The veggies and potatoes had a nasty garlic fake butter sauce on them. I don't think I would order any of their weight watchers dishes again. I'll stick to the home cooked stuff!

Employment

Guess who got a job! Go ahead guess! Ok its me. WOOHOO!!!! Its only a part time position but at least I'll get my foot in the door. I'll work Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday so I'll have my weekends free for all of that excitement and intrigue that fills my days. Yay now we can buy groceries. Gotta be thankful for the little things in life.

Drip....drip....drip

Being unemployed and having no children allows me to have tons of free time. "What do you do in your free time Leia?" you might say. Well sometimes I watch TV. Then when my DVR is empty I'll switch to Twitter. When that gets boring I might read for a bit. I usually go out once a day and play with the dogs. They have a strange fondness for sticks. Faolan chews them and spits them out. Honey eats them. Talk about getting your fiber! She's the most regular dog on the block. Anyway, when all of that fails to entertain me I take pictures of water. In my sink. Because I can!

Yummy Bacterially Fermented Milk (aka Yogurt)

Brian and I took a little exploratory trip down to Brentwood today. Brentwood is a lot like Keystone at the Crossing or Carmel in the Indianapolis area. There is a Trader Joe's and a big mall called the Galleria. All of the usual big box stores like Target and Bed Bath and Beyond are there as well.

There is a Whole Foods Market there that carries my favorite brand of yogurt. This yogurt is the best I've ever tasted. It is made with 8 different bacterial cultures compared to only 1 in Dannon or Yoplait. Extra cultures means more healthy bacteria for your intestines. It also contains no artificial ingredients. It is sweetened with fruit and fruit juice and thickened a bit with tapioca. No artificial sweeteners or weird thickeners. Its a bit more expensive than Dannon or Yoplait ($.89 a container vs $.60 a container) but it is well worth it.

Caramel Corn

Brian and I are trying to use up all of the unhealthy food we have in the house. When I go to the store later this week we'll replace the unhealthy stuff with fresh fruits and veggies and whole grains and lean meats. I bought a bag of popcorn the other day and I had some brown sugar to use up so I figured I'd make caramel corn. I found a great recipe on Allrecipes which you can find here. The only thing that I changed was to add a splash of Coffee Mate vanilla caramel creamer when I added the baking soda because I didn't have any vanilla. It turned out really great!

New Beginnings

It is a new year and my husband and I are living in a new house in a new city. So it would seem that now is a great time to start a new blog. I am going to use this blog as a journal. I will post photos I've taken and write little tidbits about my days. Because my days are fraught with excitement and intrigue. (insert sarcasm here)

Check back for more later!
